having previously impressed with vivid blends of cosmic r&b, skewed space-pop, glistening post-ambient soundscapes and mangled, synth-laden grime, rising star throwing shade (aka producer nabihan iqbal) demonstrates her dancefloor side with a killer 12- on happy skull. -chancer- and -blanx- both retain iqbal s uniquely intergalactic aesthetic,whilst flitting between jacking, chicago-influenced house rhythms and jazzy, off-kilter dancefloor grooves. synths sparkle, while vocal snippets drift in and out of the mix. the 12- is completed by a riotous, predictably heavyweight remix from kowton, whose guttural techno grooves are peppered with cut-up samples of iqbal s distinctive, dreamy vocals.

repress 2014 - next up in the 10 inch series on mos_deep another heavy 2-tracker of d marc cantu, which will be followed by a (mini)-album later this year. the opening track is a fierce chicago-styled banger kicking off with an extremely solid and frantic bassline while d marcs low-pitched voice asks us >how are we doing?<. the track slowly evolves into a deep and atmospheric masterpiece with spatial strings slowly expanding throughout the track.

h45 sees manchester s tomson (freerange) & eddie leader (hudd traxx) colloborate with chicago legend chez damier. this project has been in a long time in the making and came about when chez met eddie at his house & techno night content manchester. chez was at the start of his comeback and they were introduced by mutual friend joshua, a former prescription and hudd traxx artist. the meeting resulted in chez becoming good friendswith tomson & leader and laying down some vocals in the studio for the manchester pair. h45 is a new catalogue number for the hudd traxx family

gene hunt is a prolific producer with an un-mistakable sound of his own. and although an originator of the acid house sound from chicago, he certainly didnt stop there. his music has naturally evolved over the years, often incorporating more mature melody and rhythm structures, but always in time with a proper underground style dance track. these tracks are a perfect fit for the direction and vision of the inner shift music label as well, and for this reason we are pleased to present you with planted seeds by gene hunt.

ron maney also known as dj skull lived in the southside of chicago (il, usa). his musical career started during the summer of 1986, while recovering from a broken bone. during the following years he homed his craft, djing first at basement parties, building his reputation to go on to larger events such as, loft and hotel parties, and eventually the infamous music box and power plant clubs. at the age of fifteen ron shopped his first demo at trax records. there he first met chicago s legendary dj ron hardy, working as a&r for trax records. two years, and a new alias later (dj skull) later while at the power plant, chicago s own steve poindexter heard a dj playing one of rons tracks, and met ron. steve was now a&r at saber records and invited ron to release some tracks. so in october of 1991 dj skull s first record -n.r.g. music- was released. in 1993, he released the ep -the stomping grounds- on djax-up-beats, which was more noted than the first one. over the years that followed dj skull released lots of ep s on several labels. he has become well-respected producer and dj in the techno industry

the last few years have seen chicago footwork rise to international success, and traxmans debut album - *the mind of traxman* on planet mu - played no small part in that. it showcased cornelius fergusons brilliant ability to synthesise the beat digging of classic hip hop with the high-speed abstraction of footworks house-derived beat science. the selection of tracks on this second chapter show a slightly different take on traxman s abilities. instead of bringing in concepts from other genres, he simply creates a wider variety of footwork, made with a minimal, reduced palette. often just one or two samples are selected and diced into brain-blurring cubist puzzles that bear little relation to their original sources, or anything else for that matter.
